Joanna Haslam - Healing

Please excuse the website. I am working on a new one but I am also busy healing too, so feel free to call or email me with any questions you may have, or to book a session.

In the meantime, here’s a bit more about me and what I do

I have a Dip.IAZ in Equine and Canine Applied Zoopharmacognosy and work closely with the veterinary fraternity to offer a complementary and professional animal healing service. Zoopharmacognosy describes animals’ self-medicating behaviour and was coined by Dr Elory Rodriguez Biochemist at Cornell University from the Ancient Greek words ‘zoo’ (animal); ‘pharmaco’ (remedy); and ‘gnosy’ (knowing).

Animals have an innate ability to self-medicate using plants, clays and other natural remedies, and in the wild they will forage for them at the earliest stages of any health issue, be it emotional or physical.

I work with the animal and let them guide me to how and what they need to help heal them, combining an in-depth consultation, energy healing, Zoopharmacognosy and examining how environmental factors may benefit the animal’s health.

Some examples of what and why an animal may self-select an essential oil or herb include:

Equine Colic
Peppermint (digestive stimulant and anti-spasmodic)
German Chamomile (inflammation and pain)
Fennel (anti-spasmodic, digestive stimulant)
Calendula/rosehips (to protect the stomach)

Canine/Equine anxiety
Hemp, Hops, Valerian, Vetiver (calming)
Rose (reduces excitory neurons)

Equine cough (antibiotic resistant)
Thyme (kills airborne bacteria, immunostimulant)
Lemon (immunostimulant, select for tumours)
Eucalyptus (antibacterial, antiviral, respiratory infections)
Bitter Almond (infection, immunostimulant)

Canine cancer, tumour on adrenal gland
Lemon, (immunostimulant, tumours, uplifting)
Garlic, (antibacterial, immunostimulant)
Seaweed (thyroid, cleansing, detoxification)
Peppermint and Lavender (digestive remedies)

As well as training with Caroline Ingraham (www.ingraham.co.uk), the founder of Applied Zoopharmacognosy, I also have an MHAO in Animal and Human Healing, and am a member of the Healing Animals Organisation (www.healinganimals.org).

The energy healing I give to both animals and humans is similar to Reiki, with the aim of re-energising and relaxing the patient in order to enable their own natural resources to deal with illness or injury in the best way possible.

On a personal note I am very privileged to be surrounded by wonderful animals and people in my everyday life – my husband and I have two beautiful girls who adore our cat, dogs and horses. I am also a British Horse Society Preliminary Instructor, and compete in British Eventing, British Show Jumping and at National Championship Riding Club Level with my horses.
